What we collect when you take the personality test, why we collect it, and how to get rid of it. No small print.

What we collect

When you take the test, you give us your name, your age, your email address, your phone number, and how you’d prefer we contact you. You can also tell us how you heard about us, but that one is optional. And, of course, your answers to the 200 questions.

What we record automatically

Alongside that, the site records a few things on its own:

  • Which pages of the test you finished and when, and roughly how long the whole thing took you.
  • Which website you arrived from, and any campaign tags in the link you followed — the extra bits after a question mark that tell us an advert or a post was where you found us.
  • Your browser’s description of itself — the name and version of the browser and the kind of device. It helps us work out why something broke.
  • A one-way scrambled fingerprint of your IP address, used only to stop the form being flooded by automated abuse. We do not store your IP address itself. The scrambling cannot be reversed, and it is mixed with a secret value so the result cannot be matched back to an address by guesswork either.

Your answers are also kept in your own browser as you go, so you can close the tab and come back to it. That copy lives on your device and is cleared when you finish, or when you choose “Start over”.

Why we collect it

So that South Coast Mission can talk your results through with you, and get in touch the way you asked us to. That’s the whole purpose. The rest — the timings, the campaign tags — tells us whether the test is too long and how people are finding it.

Who sees it

Staff at South Coast Mission. Nobody else. We do not sell your information and we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes.

Three companies handle it on our behalf, purely to keep the service running: a website hosting provider, a database provider that stores the records, and an email delivery provider that sends the confirmation to you and the notification to us. They act on our instructions and may not use your information for anything else.

How long we keep it

If you start the test but don’t finish, we delete what you entered after 30 days. If you complete it, we keep your submission until you ask us to remove it — the conversation about your results may happen weeks later, and we would rather not lose your answers before we’ve had it.

The anonymous records of which pages were finished are deleted after 180 days.

Your choices

Ask us and we’ll show you what we hold, correct anything wrong, or delete it entirely. You don’t need to give a reason, and it won’t affect how we treat you.
